Power quality and continuity
Power interruptions and voltage fluctuations are a common planning consideration for many Karachi sites. Protecting IT equipment usually involves more than a basic UPS:
- UPS type: line-interactive units suit desktops and light loads. Online double-conversion UPS units provide cleaner, continuously conditioned power and are commonly chosen for servers, storage and core networking.
- Sizing: UPS capacity is rated in VA and watts. As an illustration, a 1,500 W total load at a 0.9 power factor needs about 1,670 VA, and adding 20–30% headroom points to roughly 2,000–2,200 VA. Runtime depends on the battery configuration, so state how many minutes you need.
- Generator integration: sites with generators need a UPS that tolerates generator power, and often an automatic transfer arrangement.
- Distribution: PDUs, surge protection and proper earthing protect equipment that a UPS alone does not.
